An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic, Standards-based Unit on The Building of the Hudson County Court House in Jersey City NJ Hudson County Schools of Technology/Academy of Architecture and Construction Trades (AACT) will study a unit on our Hudson County communities as viewed through the window of the Hudson County Court House, an expression of the people who built it and their times. Students will gain a better understanding of how people shape the world around them, physically, intellectually, individually, and collectively.

Work will include the history of the building and the people who made it, connections to other countries, cultures and times. Specific studies will involve technology of the times, materials, functions, artistic movements, cultural movements, labor-management interaction, functions of space and form, construction materials/techniques, energy, geology and municipal infrastructure. Vocational elements will closely link to academic subjects, as the past will be linked to the present and future. Changing cultural and ethnic influences will be explored. Disciplines will dovetail architecture, literature, math, environmental science, health, political science, fine art, design, and language (emphasis on vocational terminology) - integrated with carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electicity, masonry, and environmental control.
