An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Unit on the Development and Evolution of a Prairie Town.

This unit has been developed to be an integrated, interdisciplinary study of the development of a prairie town from the 1860's. This will be compared to the modern day prairie city, Kansas City. State and district science and social studies benchmarks will be met throughout the course of this unit. Benchmarks include weather, ecology, interdependence, vertebrates, economics, geography, history, and civics. Students will develop an understanding of the history, geography, and resources of the 1860's prairie. The unit is a springboard for the year's "Cities - Then and Now" theme which will include rain forests, deserts, and local communities
