'To Be Or Not To Be' OR How To Cell Your Soul And Still Fit Your Genes

An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic unit on Cell Biology, integrating math and the visual arts. Students will understand that the cell is the fundamental unit of life and will understand the basic form and function of cells and cell structures. Students will learn about the evolution of the concept of "ideal beauty" from Greek times through the Renaissance to today. Students will understand the properties of congruent and similar polygons, and will be able to determine whether objects in nature or the world are congruent, similar, or neither. These concepts will be used to better understand the symmetry and art of the human body, and the fundamental unit of life, the cell.
