An integrated, interdisciplinary and thematic end-of-the-year unit for grades 9-11 on understanding the American identity in the 20th Century What is the American identity? What is it based on? Not easy questions to answer but important concepts for students to grapple with. This unit asks students to apply the social studies and language arts skills and content that they have learned over the year to the question of American identity. Jefferson claimed that democracy depended on an educated society and this unit reflects that demand.
